Throttle lever slips

I ran my '59 Lightwin for the first time this evening after a partial overhaul, new coils, points adjusted, carb cleaned, new impeller etc... It runs great, started after a couple of pulls and throttles well, the only problem is if I let go of the throttle lever it creeps back and the engine slows and stops!<br />I can't see any way to "stiffen" up the movement, is there an adjustment somewhere that I've missed? Maybe the grease I used to lube the armature plate support was just too good and I should try something thicker?

Check your spark plug wires.I ran into this problem alot of times and found the older the wires are the harder they get wich kind of acks lick a spring.you push towards it and it starts pushing back slowly because the wire is to stiff.also try loosing wire were its strapped to block see if it still tries moving back on its own.Or best yet replace the coil wires and Get rid of the problem.

Re: Throttle lever slips

I fitted new HT wires anyway, but that's not the problem, it's just the drag on the magneto plate when the engine is running that makes it creep back. I've found a temporary solution, bent the arm slightly so it rubs on the lower case, and wrapped it with duct tape so it doesn't rattle! It works but looks ugly, when I restore the motor properly I'll have to find a more elegant solution, it may be as simple as using less or thicker grease.
