I just got the boat and motor 1986 85HP Force. The throttle linkage is not set right. how do i know you ask? well, when in neutral i can pull OUT on the fast idle button on the control / shifter and the throttle lever will only move about 1/4 way down. well even though it moves, the idle stays the same. which leads to my next question.....

Is there an online manual somewhere that i can purchase that has the procedure for re-calibrating the throttle linkage / shift linkage???

Thanks Guy's

This is my second outboard, so i hope to learn a good deal more about them.

Other than the fact that your idle will not increase, the control is working properly.

The most likely cause for the problem is that the previous owner adjusted the idle stop screw in too far to acheive a reliable idle--now, the linkage will not move far enough to raise the idle to 1500-2000 for starting.

Search this forum. In the past I have posted detailed instructions on re-synchronizing throttle, timing, and idle. Sorry, I do not remember under what heading I posted the reply--probably somthing to do with idle though.

If you can not find anything, buy a Clymers manual. They give decent instructions on syhchronizing.
