67 Johnson 6HP. Although 40 years old, not used that much and not abused. Going fishing and tried to start - was harder to get started than normal. When started, had what seemed to have more blue smoke coming out than normal -thought it had flooded. Don't remmber the exact situation but had trouble getting it running. The throttle seemed like it got stuck and all I could get was what seemed like half speed (RPM) with choke pulled half-way out. Ran OK like this. Checked it out when I got home and found the keeper on a throtttle linkage on the carb had come off and a linkage came off thereby not allowing the throttle to advance. I thought "No problem". Decided to check my manual for proper throttle adjustment. That's when I read about "synchronization" and found that the cam was WAY off from where the cam follower is suppose to make contact - like way to the port (right) side of the mark on the cam. I've recently took all the throttle linkage off and cleaned & lubricated and replaced with no problem on a 78 Rude 6HP and don't remember any area where a slippage could occur. I hesitate to adjust the sync 'cause it seems like something else might be wrong. What do you think?
