I was just reading the post from Ameyers about carb/throttle linkage. I was about to ask the same question.
I am very usure what the linkage is supposed to look like on my motor. I think the previous owner was playing musical
chairs with this motor and a 30 horse 1956---- it LOOKS like I am missing at least 1 linkage. The missing linkages could be on the other motor---

Is it possible that someone out there has a pic of an RDE-17 showing what the linkages should look like ? The sealock
maual is pretty generic and starts in year 58 or 59 and is not exact for mine.

Reading the response to Ameyers----- someone said the rubber roller doesnt touch the cam untill the motor is
shifted into forward from neutral----- so how does the linkage sense if its in neutral or forward ? Where does that linkage
go on the other end ?

I have another rde-17 but it didnt have a carb............
have an evinrude 25 but it looks different. have a 59 johnson 35 and it looks different. so I dont have a model to look at.

Looked all through google pics but didnt see a pic of that area......

Anybody with a pic handy ?

You are correct, the RDE-17 is different than newer models that have the cruise throttle feature. Post a picture of what you have and we can tell you what if anything is missing.

About that roller--don't believe everything that uninformed people might tell you. Here is how it goes:

1. Make sure the recoil starter lockout is installed.

2. Look to the left of the roller. See that pointy protrusion sticking up from the intake manifold?

3. Look at the brass cam that opens the roller/linkage. See the mark on it?

4. When the mark on the cam aligns with the pointer, the carb throttle should just barely be ready to start opening. NOT when the mark aligns with the roller as some will tell you.

Thanks FR---- I just noticed yesterday that the recoil starter was switched with the 30 hp one. It must have quit working and the Previous owner just switched them. The one on it now (30hp) does not have the slot for the lockout arm. THAT may be
the part of the linkage that appears to be missing. I assume I will have to repair the other recoil unit and and transplant it back over. BTW---- I noticed that the 30 hp one thats on it--- when the motor "kicks over" it pulls the rope out of your hand--
which I guess would indicate the 30 HP one is buggy too. I have not yet taken apart the 25 horse one to see what may be
going on.

Im about to take the carb off and put the kit in it.
