I have a 1990 Suzuki DT85 2 stroke outboard. The shifter isn't real smooth and sometimes when the boat is crusing at 3/4 or so throttle, the motor all of a sudden revs a little higher and the boat slows down, almost to a dead stop. Some have suggested that I have a linkage problem. Others have said that my prop is loose. I checked the prop, it didn't seem to be loose. As for the linkage, I have no idea how to fix that. I could use some help. Thanks.

Re: Throttle Links

if the RPM rises while the hul speed slows the first point to look at is the propeller hub. make sure the hub is not slipping.
usually if it slips it will melt some and you will see rubber pieces.

Re: Throttle Links

Here's another dumb question. How do I get the prop off? It has a nut, but it has some sort of clip around it. See Photo.

In order to post pictures you need to have them hosted by Photobucket.com or similar site.

Re: Throttle Links

You have to bend the "clip" aka split-pin straight so you can get it out, then get the nut off and then your prop comes right off .....
