Throttle More Gas-Less Gas. Is this Normal?

I owned a Ski Nautique and we wakeboarded all the time. I just bought a 19' Bayliner Capri that had LOW LOW hours and is in as close to NEW shape as I could imagine a boat would be.

Well we went out the other day for the first time to Wakeboard and I could not believe how much I had to play with the throttle. On my Nautique I could pretty much throttle with very little fluctuation in speed, but in this boat as soon as the Wakeboarder turns or jumps the speed is really effected. Is this normal?? This is my first I/O so any info will help. I thought about a Hydrofoil, but have yet to read anything positive about them. Smart Tabs seem to be the way to go? Thanks in advance

What engine? This is normal on a low HP boat. More power and/or less prop pitch and less drastic adjustments to throttle.

SORRY I thought I posted. It is a 4.3 V6 190hp. The boat came with 2 props. One is the standard and the other was for more of a Hole Shot. Pulls the skier out right away, but the constant adjustments when someone jumps or cuts the wake is really a work out. It was my first time out and I know that practice will make perfect, but for now I just want to make sure it is not just me. Will Tabs help?

4.3 is a decent all around engine. I've never boarded with a boat that has tabs so I couldn't tell you there. I've boarded with a 100 HP Volvo in an 18', a 4.3 in another 18', and a handful of 200-260 HP small block Chevy boats ranging from 18'-21'. You're always gonna have to work the throttle but the thing I've noticed is the less HP, the more you gotta work the throttle to maintain a steady speed.
