I have either a 1985 or 1986 Quicksilver controller (I think.....) (SEE PHOTO BELOW) Could anyone help me identify which model I have because I need to order the button and detent parts (I think...). This link shows dozens of controls, but it's not clear which diagram pertains to the parts INSIDE my controller. http://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercury-marine-accessory-parts/remote-controls-and-components
MAYBE I CAN CLEAN AND REGREASE IT THOROUGHLY WITHOUT DOING A REBUILD ????????
DOES ANYONE have an idea how to clean the inner workings of this controller, without actually disassembling it? There is lots of caked and hard old grease on the housing and on the small parts.
HERE IS MY IDEA..........
I'm wondering it I could spray/drench the inside mechanical parts with a degreaser like WD-40 Specialist Degreaser followed by a quick rinse with vinegar? I could also use a small toothbrush to break up any larger accumulations of old dried grease.
I would then apply marine grease liberally to all mechanical parts.
=================================================
I'm hoping that this treatment regime might free-up the "Throttle Only" button and related mechanical parts.
COULD YOU PROVIDE ANY HELP IDENTIFTYING MY QUICKSILVER MODEL PARTS DIAGRAM ??? WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT TRYING TO CLEAN THE CONTROLLER WITHOUT DISASSEMBLING IT ???
