Throttle position?

HI Guys, My SeaRay 180 3.0 only has 6 hours on it. When I put the throttle forward to drop it in gear, I have to move it rather far ahead to get it going. Does anyone know how soon you should get the initial response, and then how far forward before it would really move out??

Re: Throttle position?

Most likely a linkage adjustment. Mine does the same thing, but I am use to it and havn't made the adjustment.

Hi fisthebay... do you know if by leaving the throttle the way it is gives you a wide open throttle?? Or would the boat be able to get more speed if this is corrected??

Skipper<br />100% NORMAL, think about it if it started opening up the exact point it went in gear you would have to be exact when putting in in gear or you not get it far enough and be grinding the gears or a little too far and and accelerrate into the 10 other boats waiting for there trailers. Slowing to idel again would have to be exact or you would be pulling it out of gear when you just wanted to slow to a idel to idel up to the dock. If you took it out of gear to slow approch to dock or trailer then needed to put back in gear to get rest of way up again woud have to be exact or would be accelerrating into the boat ahead at the dock or gringing your gears. It will go wide open but if you want to be sure, pull the Backflame arester and get a flashlight with engine off push throttle all the way foward and look into carb if the bottom butterfly is all the way open that is all there is. Remember want to shift into gear rapidly as there is no clutch or torque converter. One gear is turning one stopped if shift slow will grind off tips of gears until gear actually engages and they both start turning.
