Throttle Problem

I have a '91 Force 120 and had a problem with the throttle this weekend. I bought, 18ft. Cobra, with a missing throttle box. I bought one and installed it myself. It works well in terms of putting the engine in gear and throttlign up and down. However, when I try to get the boat in neutral I have a ton of problems. I have to yank the throttle back hard to pop it back into nuetral. After that the idle starts racing and I have to shut off the engine. Any suggestions?

Re: Throttle Problem

I just got done with the same problem with my 78 Merc. You just need to get into the engine housing and get the cable adjustments correct by trial and error. Move the adjustments a little and try it then do it again.........

Re: Throttle Problem

Thanks schmoedog. It hasn't looked like it was shifting right once put into nuetral. There is a white button that, once the trhottle is put in nuetral, a metal slide depresses the button. (on the starboard side of the engine right below the carb linkage)
Is there any way to recitfy this problem on land without having to take it in the water? I am afraid I will rip out the gears.
Should the metal slide be matching exactly with the button once placed in neutral?
