Throttle problem

I bought a New prop and i wanted to test it yesterday on the lake. the motor started ok however was ilding high so i adjusted the idle. when i pushed the throttle i had problems.

The throttle was kind of stiff when pushing it foward. when i pulled it back to go in reverse it had no problems. while trying to go foward it would go but would go very slow. when i pushed the throttle all the way the motor would stall. I looked at the throttle cable while pushing the throttle down and saw that the bracket holding the calbe would push out away from the cable. the nut holding this bracket was tight.

I worked on it lastnight but cannot fix it. like I said when i pull the throttle to go in reverse it work fine. but to go foward it is stiff.

How can i fix this?

How about a couple of photos to show us all exactly what you mean.

Re: Throttle problem

Sure i will get some pics when i get home. I did adjust the throttle knob and that did nothing.

I talked to a marine repair shop he said there could be a problem in the gearcase.

I think the guy maybe right because The bracket that holds the throttle cable in on the powerhead end. there is a lever on the powerhead that the cable connects to. when i put it in reverse that lever goes back, when it go foward it does not move as much as in reverse.

Re: Throttle problem

On my motor the throttle cable connects to a bracket that holds the cable and the bracket connects to a lever on the motor. this lever when pushing the throttle supose to go back back as in toward the front of the boat. when pulling the throttle it goes foward. It worked fine when pulling the throttle but when pushing the throttle it felt like somthing was hold it from going back.

What is this lever for and what does it do. what could have caused it to get stuck?
I guess it fixed itself?. I was ready the repair manual to try and figure out what was goin on as far as the throttle and shift cables. i couldnt find anything in the book on my problem. Last night after work i pushed the throttle down and it was working. I cant figure out why it is but is it. The bracket hold the throttle cable did not pop out like it was doing.
