Throttle problems.

I have a 2001 25hp Nissan outboard. It starts rough. When throttles, motor hesitates, goes slow, then kicks in after several seconds.

I have put in fresh gas, spark plugs are good, and there is good vent on the gas tank.

Can you give any information as to what could be going on? What to try?

I am in the middle of duck season and need quick repair advise.

Thanks

Re: Throttle problems.

Has it been awhile since you last started it up? If so and you left fuel in the system, there is a good chance your carburetor is clogged. Short term term fix is to try mixing 2 oz of Sea Foam per gallon of gas and giving it a run. Not sure about this carburetor but most have idle, intermediate and high speed circuits. If your motor runs bad at any of these, then the clog is associated with that circuit. Long term fix might require a rebuild of the carburetor. Sea Foam usually is more a preventative than a clog cleaner. But sometimes it might clean things out.

Re: Throttle problems.

If all issues are ok, maybe you should warm up your engine specially in cold waters a bit more, 3-5 minutes before full throttle. Mine if not correctly warmed up will hesitate for some seconds when at full throttle for fast hole shot, after that, no problem at all at any throttle position.
