When I release the throttle lever while at WOT, the handle pulls back about 10%. It's fine with me because at WOT I do over 5500 RPM and 48 MPH and with 10% less throttle about 4700 RPM and 40 MPH. I've heard that you should run your engine at 10% less than WOT for optimum performance and better fuel economy. Is it normal for a throttle to "back off" a little, or is it a quirk of my set up? Engine is a 1994 225 Johnny with OMC controls.
Stalker

Mine doesn't move at all must be a quirk of your set up.
I always run mine about 10% off wot.

Not sure if this is what you're after, but there should be a throttle tensioning knob on the control to hold the throttle in position. Look for a flat black knob on the control...

Well here's a little info that may get you to drop it back some more. Most, not all, but most outboards get the best economy at around 4000rpm. The 10% theory applies to diesels mostly. If economy is not what you want, then don't worry about it. But if you're looking for a little more range then pull it back to 4000.
