I have a 21' Wellcraft with a 1998 Johnson 150 Ocean Runner. Shifting into reverse is smooth. When I continue to accelerate, there is a point when I get a little speed, but it takes a hard shove to get any additional speeed, which casuing me some trouble when backing out of slip in wind and current. When pulling back harder on the handle, you better hang on, because you are now moving way too fast. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dave

Disconnect the cables at the engine and operate the controls. If they still feel stiff, the problem is in the remote or the cable, not the engine. If they are now free, something is up with the linkage on the engine. You might also check to make sure the cables are not bent at too sharp an angle at any point. They should not have any less than about a 12-inch bend radius.
