Throttle/Shift Controls

Hello,

I have a Mercruiser 350Mag with Alpha1 I/O and the stock plastic throttle control. It is side-mount with a square button in the center to disengage the drive, trim button on the side and trailer-trim down lower on the side.

It works fine but the handle is loose and has some wobble in it.

Can this be tightened up?

Who makes better replacement controls? I've found Livorsi for about $450.

I think that I'd I'd like a metal one better.

What about replacing it with a better one from another boat, are these things pretty much universal as far as connections?

Thanks.

Controls are pretty generic. You may or may not have to replace the control cables as well.

If the handle is loose, there is a hex bolt, at an angle on the underside of the throttle handle. You almost need to be on your knees or lower to see it. Try to see if it is loose. Perhaps loosing and pushing the handle on and tightening the bolt will help.
Good Luck Roman
P.S. I am installing a new ch1700

Mine did the same thing... and started to come off... so I bought a teleflex (works great)... and then after taking it apart to replace it found the hex screw.

I've got a Quicksilver 3000 control and my handle was also getting loose. While I had it apart checking trim wiring I tightened up the hex nut a little and it's good now. Easy fix.

A search of the forum (and/or Google) will likely turn up results regarding your specific model control.

on my old one, the one that I didn't take a ton of time to check, the trim switch was shorted out and bypassed some time ago... It's a nice quicksilver controller, but got a different one just to make life easy...
