Throttle slack

I have a VP 5.0 FL with Cobra SX drive. When shifting throttle forward it seems that I have to move the throttle much more forward than I should have to before the boat actually accelerates. If you were viewing the throttle head on and neutral is at the 12 o'clock position, the throttle is probably between 9 and 10 o'clock before the boat actually begins accelerating. Is this normal? Is there any way to adjust this?

Mine is about the same. If you can get WOT, all is good I'd think.
