Throttle Solenoid Plunger

1982 70hp Sea Horse: the throttle solenoid plunger came out Saturday and was hanging by the spring. I had to trailer the boat a couple of hours to get to the launch and of course there is bound to be some bouncing, but is this normal? I was told by the previous owner that it might happen and if I can't get the motor started to check the solenoid plunger. This just seems odd to me.

Any thoughts?

Re: Throttle Solenoid Plunger

I suspect you've lost the retaining ring that holds the plunger to the choke rod. part # 46 in the diagram for your motor (shop2.evinrude.com), you may be missing other parts too, have a look at the diagram. It's a choke solenoid BTW.

Re: Throttle Solenoid Plunger

I checked the diagram out (p. 16) but the plunger actually hangs by the spring and comes completely out of the solenoid. The spring and retaining ring stay in place. What would cause the plunger to come completely out of the solenoid?

Yeah choke solenoid, thanks. I was getting kind of tired last night when I posted and mixed my terms.
