I havw a 15hp johnson sea horse 1979 model. The throttle is sticking when trying to accelerate. It appears the ignition advance located under flywhell may need some grease or cleaning. can this flywheel be removed without using a puller. I tried and since flywheel made of aluminum trying to be careful.

definitely only use the bolt type puller and make sure the bolts are threaded in far but not too far that you screw into the electrics below the flywheel. Not screwing in enough will risk stripping the threads.
Using a three legged puller will just bend and break the flywheel and still not get it off!
