I have an 86 Stingray Supersport that I picked up relatively cheap. It has alpha one drive and I updated to quicksilver 4000 and gen 2 cables for the controls as the original control was chewed up. I have gone through the manual guide to install the cables and set them up on the switch plate from scratch including the lower control cable, which was in good condition and sliding well. I took the drive off and cleaned it out really well, sand, gunk etc where the cable meets the gear lever as well as the gear shaft? and put it back together everything is moving smoothly in regard to the shift controls. Where I am seeing an issue is with the throttle control. This is a new cable and control as I mentioned and I lubricated per instructions with Mercury 2-4-C where instructed. The cable is currently disconnected from the carb as I was making sure this was not a restriction problem with the carb linkage. The throttle when moved into reverse, to the first notch, then to WOT is very smooth with very almost no friction. The throttle when moved into forward into the first notch, then to WOT is much more hesitant. It does not fight but there is definitely more force involved. My thought process is this is probable normal as to not slam it to WOT with little to no resistance and that there is less restriction in reverse for those instances you have to slow the boat significantly and you would not likely being trying to move into reverse very quickly on any other occasion as you would with forward (i.e. pulling a skier). My question is, is this normal? Should there be a difference in the throttle friction in forward and reverse? I'm just trying to get it dialed in. Thanks!
