Throttle stops in Forward but not in Reverse

Hey guys, earlier this week I posted a question about slow top speed in my 1972 Merc 110 9.8. In Fwd you can barely twist the tiller before it hits the throttle stopper. At this point the carb only opens slightly. I just noticed when I put in reverse, the throttle stopper moves and allows the carb to open almost completely but not fully.. It actually never touches the stopper in reverse. So obviously something is backwards here. How can I fix this? Could I just take the stopper out completely?

It would be best to fix the linkage rather than to remove the stop system for the shifting. Boats can be very hard to steer when in reverse at WOT which can lead to serious accidents. JMO

Re: Throttle stops in Forward but not in Reverse

I agree it would be ideal to have the whole stop system reversed so that neutral and reverse are limited but not FWD, just not sure how hard this will be to correct. Any idea how to adjust the linkage?
