we have an issue. The motor starts great runs great. Issue is the throttle jams. We cant it to to go forward or even neutral its stuck in reverse and doesnt want to move. We took it a part and cant find whats wrong. So I went on ebay and found a simplex throttle for an Evinrude not thinking as usual i bought it. Now I'm curious can I use this throttle with the system I have and how so? The 1978 85hp has a lift lever or starting and then its like Hydromatic set up has a single throttle handle. Can I use the simplex?

Re: Throttles question

I would guess that you could. But you would lose the start-in-neutral-only function. Put another way, it will be possible to start it in gear and with a wide-open throttle and run over the dock, or another boat, or a person.

You will have to mount the switches and overheat horn someplace else.

If you have power trim, there's the trim switch.

Besides, you won't like it as well.

Re: Throttles question

First I want to say we have a seperate trim switch. And why wouldnt it have a neutral I thought all shifters had neutral so you wouldnt run into the piers or someone? I actually found the right one but ave to wait for closing.
