Through hull sounder

Does anyone know if a thru-hull sounder will work through the thin aluminum of a pontoon tube?

I looking to add a GPS/sounder unit to a pontoon and have access to the middle tube.

Humminbird tech support told me no, not thru aluminium.. just fiberglass.

Well, that figures. Obviously more research is needed to decide options.
