Throw out the one piece manifolds and water pump?

I removed the one-piece manifolds from the 4.3L and replaced with the 2 piece manifold riser setup. In the process, I noticed the water pump was failing so I replaced that as well. Should I throw the parts out or is there a way to get some money back?

Cast iron is about $5/ hundred lbs in my area if I wanted to sell the manifolds for scrap.

On a side note, I noticed that the water pump has an extra hole on the starboard side of the boat. But the engine block has that hole plugged up with some metal. Maybe it was a bypass at one point. Does anyone know why Merc plugged up that hole?

I had a couple of sets of the OMC version of those and that's what I did. Brought them to the scrap yard for what I could get.
Wise to get rid of them before you had a hydrolock.

Merc had nothing to do with GM's motor and pump

the old parts are worth scrap only. if you can get $5 worth of scrap, go for it. normally, i just take to work and toss in the mixed metal dumpster

Sounds like scrap yard it is.

Luckily the boat hasn't hydrolocked. The risers have been on the boat for 23 years (in fresh water only). They didn't look bad when I took them off but I've read the horror stories enough to know it was time to take care of the issue.

The pump has the extra opening but the block has the hole plugged. Maybe GM plugged the hole and Merc just used the same pump regardless.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,......

As noted, the old parts are scrap,.....
That hole in the block used to be an air bleed hole, so the block would fill with antifreeze in an automotive app,.....
It was deleted years ago,..... ya don't need it,.....
