When you throw a rod out the side of a block, can that block be repaired if the hole is in an area that is not vital like not in a cylinder wall of course.

Nathan, Yes you can have it welded, if it is not in a load/stress bearing area. Do a thread search on cracked blocks. Several on the board said they were successful........Goodluck....BushCat :D :D :D

Hi Nathan<br /> Of course it depends on how bad it is and where its at. But yes most of the time you can just weld those puppies right up.

And have them weld it with its block halfs bolted together, with the bearing sleeves and end-caps in place and torqued. This will minimize warpage. Also be sure to smooth the weld on the inside, as well. Good Luck!

Re: Throwing a Rod

Well I was going to buy a complete block for a 1973 25 Hp Johnson that had thrown a rod though the side of the block, and repair it, and use my parts and the good parts from it to make a good motor. I decided that it is too much trouble to do that so I am parting out my 25hp Johnson.
