Thru-Hull Exhaust fiberglass "junk" around exhaust port.

My 2003 Merc 350 with thru-Hull exhausts appear to have junk in the exhausts. I honestly can't say if it was there last year, but I would *think* I would have noticed it earlier. Both exhausts look the same.

It appears to be what I would say in different situations, blown fiberglass, that was not cleaned up. Image attached showing issue.

The boat runs fine, no issues.

Past history: had an issue with a bad spark plug cable last summer, so a dead cylinder, and poor idle from a bad IAC muffler 2 seasons ago, but no major issues. Boat is 3 years new to me, about 200 hours at purchase about 300 now. Mostly a couple weeks a year at Powell.

If it is not an issue, could I clean it up/scrape it clean to ensure the flap seats correctly?

Thanks for your help.

Engine details: 350 MAG MPI SKI. Serial Number: OM317089, Ski Boat (Centurion); In board, v-drive,

I don't see an issue with it, kind of looks like algae

Do the exhausts on the transom sit near or on the water line ?

They are under water.

I scraped some off and it does feel like fiberglass. Hard and rigid. Not algae. It is not in the water that much, spends a couple weeks in water, but the rest of the time it is tow in-out usage.

Ayuh,...... Either you've got fiberglass exhaust/ mufflers, or a mouse moved in over winter,.....

Yes Fiberglass mufflers, but does this mean they are deteriorating? or is this normal?

Worrying it is "melting" due to some reason I don't understand...

Just scrape what you can from the sealing point and call it a day.

Thanks, will do!

Any idea why it gets there, or has it been there all along and I did not notice it.

The fiberglass exhaust mans erode over time and do wear out. Sooner or later the mans will need to be replaced
