Hi Guys
I have a 2250 Bayliner Capri with a 350 chev in it along with a Cobra stern drive, I'm looking at installing a thru hull exhaust system and was intending to have the outlets/ exhaust tip's to exit around mid way off the engine. The tips would have the rubber flaps to ensure water doesn't backfill.

Does anyone see any issues or something that may cause a problem doing this, your thoughts would be greatly appreciated,

Howdy,

You should measure the distance from the waterline to the riser height to ensure that they're high enough. No amount of flappers will prevent water from getting in if it's not high enough.

Only that everyone else will hate the noise and the boat cops will cite you if it exceeds about 88db measured at idle from some arbitrary distance!

I had Capts Call on mine. When I swapped from the OMG 460 to the Merc 454, I left the Capts Call on the floor. They seem to work best there.

ymmv

Ayuh,... Donno what ya mean by That,...

Without center riser manifolds, ya Ain't goin' thru-hulls with 'em....

Otherwise, Sure, get a Big holesaw, measure 3 or 4 times, 'n go to Cuttin'....
can you tell me the optimum distance from the risers to the outlets that I should be looking at.

Whatever it takes to get outa the hull....

Hi Bond-do
I do have OMC risers and from there my thoughts are that it will descend approximately 18 inchers and then exit the boat.

What do you think

Ayuh,... Sure Why not,..??

I did it Once, 'n have been tryin' to quite it down since about the 2nd or 3rd day...

Come off the risers at that angle if possible, 'n with flappers, ya should be fine, but LOUD....

+1 on the loud. My boat had thru hull exhaust when I got it (I didn't know any better/worse). It will be annoying to others, and even you at times. I ended up getting some slip in silencers (from CP Performance, I think) that have helped considerably and now I can be on it all day and never get too annoyed.

Maybe somebody will chime in on the exact specifics, but I think there's going to be a dimension from the water line to the top of the riser (I think it's called the "static line") and there's another dimension for the amount of drop that should be in your risers per foot of run (i.e., it should drop x inches per foot). My understanding is if you get it wrong you run the risk of your engine drinking water in certain situations.

Re: thru hull exhaust system on a 2250 Bayliner Capri

Hi, I had mine installed by the original boat builder. it is a Caliber 1, 350 mercruiser alpha one, so not quite the same as yours. they took the y pipe out and put the tips right out about even with the mid point of the Gimbel ring, below the swim step. but if I had to to do over, and I am a motor head and like the sound of a good motor with open exhaust, I would go with some kind of silence system like sold by Eddie Marine or even one that keeps the y pipe in place like Moore performance, you can look both up on the net to get a idea of how they work. the load motor gets old after a while, you can never enjoy your radio while running. the noise police have never given me a problem, but I run out here on the river, and lake Havasu, and my boat is nothing compared to some of the big boat that run in this area. It would be nice to go back to thru the out dive exhaust to enjoy the radio at least.

Re: thru hull exhaust system on a 2250 Bayliner Capri

Love my thru hull, but I'm 25 so take that for what it's worth....Mine exit out the side just above the water line and maybe drop 2-3" from risers to tips, couldn't go out the back since the tips would have been underwater. No real science to it, just make it work....and the solution to not being able to hear the speakers is a big amp and more speakers :)

And I've never had a problem with the police, neighbors on our canal don't like me too much though.

Hi Guys
I have a picture here of what I plan to do ?diverter? the best of both worlds.
What I can?t seem to find is the outside diameter of my OMC risers or the ?Y? pipe inlet. I?ve searched for drawing details and still no luck, I don?t wont to pull mine apart as yet until I?ve done all my research.

Can anyone assist me with this and what your thoughts are on air operated diverter's?
