Someone told me that I could mount my transom-mounted (garmin 250) transducer on the inside of my boat!! Is this true? They told me I could just epoxy the transducer to my vinyl covered wood floor!! Can I mount it in the bilge area to the aluminum bottom? My cause for this inquiry is due to my transducer being mounted on the transom and it is leaking thru the mounting screws and I coated the screws with the life caulk that was recommended to me at the marina! Anybody that has any insight or advice please help!!
pjw

You can mount it inside your bilge with epoxy or silicon. One thing is,if the transducer reads water temp or has a speed wheel, they will not work.

Great question, I would like to know the answer too. You might try the Electrics,Electronics and Trolling Motors forum.

Re: thru-hull transducer on aluminum

I know they can "shoot thru" fiberglass, I wasn't aware they could shoot through metal. Either way, if the screws are still leaking, I'd use 4200 on them, or maybe thru bolt (above the water line) and 5200 a wooden plate to the transom and attach the transducer to that. Some people have good luck with the "shoot thru's", I've always seen a performance drop. My boat has a depth only one epoxied in there (glass hull), I've tried removing it but unfortunately the broken transducer is part of the boat now. There may just be some bubbles under it but I don't have the option of checking it or cleaning it. Food for thought....

pjw- If you want to make it easy, go to Vexilar's website and order their "Alumaducer". It's designed to mount inside your aluminum boat and shoot thru the hull.

It's about $100 plus the adaptor cable.

UFM82
