I have a "plastic" thru hull depth sounder transducer that is cracked on the face. Talking to a transducer manufacturer, they said the integrity of the unit is compromised and do not try to repair. Attached is a picture of the transducer looking from the underside of the fiberglass boat while it's on the trailer.
The existing transducer required a 2" hole in the hull, while the new transducer will require a 2-3/8" hole. Since the new hole will be slightly larger I thought I would do the following, but would like a sanity check...
I plan to locate the exact center of the existing transducer from the waterside while on the trailer. Then drill a 1/8" pilot hole a few inches into the transducer assembly and then take a 2-3/8" hole saw and cut out the existing transducer while making the new hole thru the hull. Hopefully this will leave only the outside portion of the existing transducer, which is 3" in diameter.
Does this sound plausible or crazy? Any thoughts or suggests would be appreciated.
