Re: thru hull transducer

Any will shoot thru aluminum. The pizo crystal in the transducer vibrates when hit by an electric signal (200khz is one frequency used). This vbration is transmitted through the hull and radiates through the water. It strikes objects and is reflected back to the hull where it is re-transmitted thru the hull to the transducer crystal. Vibrations received cause it to generate an electrical signal which is processed by the electronics and displayed for you to see.

Metal re-transmits sound much better than plastic or fiberglas. There is no "electrical signal" trying to get through the hull.....it's sound.

Have used them on every aluminum boat I ever had, successfully; even back in the days when all you had was a spinning neon bulb to look at.

Mark

Re: thru hull transducer

Well, on my first aluminum boat, me too. Then, when I was looking for a place to mount it externally, and not finding one to suit me, it dawned on me that we're talking about sound, not an electric (electronic) signal being transmitted through the water, like electronic (electromagnetic) radio waves that travel through the air.

Mark
