Thrust Bearing removal in Lightwin ?

I picked up a spare Lower Unit for my '56 Lightwin and Can't get the thrust bearing out to remove the pinion gear. Any Ideas how to get it out ? Is it made of aluminum ? -Thanks

Your choice of two ways:
1. Tap on the end of the drive shaft to dislodge the thrust bearing.
2. Hold the gearcase with open end down and frap it on the workbench top.
