thrust washer ?

1994 omc whaler jet<br />I belive I need to replace a missing part and need to know what to do. <br />sometime about a year ago I got some trash in my intake grid and around my shaft on the jet drive . when I noticed the debris included in it was some old fishing line tangled around the shaft .I removed all of the stuff from the shaft and closed the unit and fired her up and proceeded.as time went by I noticed there was a groaning sound coming from under the boat ,but Icould never find anything wrong however over time the groaning got worse and began to make me wonder exactly where and why was it going on .I mentioned it to a guy at a shop and he said I probably threw away my thrust washer with the trash I pulled off of the shaft when I removed the blockage. I belive the inside diameter is 1" and it was white and had a plastic texture .I thought it was a ring produced from the results of the turning of the shaft with fishing wrapped around it so I threw all of what I pulled from the shaft away wich included the washer. there is nothing on the shaft between the end of the impeller and the rear of the housing .I'm sure by now there should be ...HELP.
