thunder craft 470 merc out drive

i have a 1983 Thundercraft 470 merc cruiser 170hp i'm trying to find what outdrive i have so someone can send me the right service manual
bear with me i'm new to I/O the only numbers i can find on outboard is
1 84R 6325071, on front of outdrive is a big #4
^
missing number

i found a sticker on the motor it says transom assembly 6316537
i hope this helps or where do i look?

6325071 is the drive serial number (1.84:1 ratio, Right hand rotation)

Mercruiser manual #6 may work for you but that could be the vintage where #2 engines and drives manual is what pertains to your drive

what are you trying to do??

i'm not trying to do anything i just need a service manual for winterizing and maintenance

you would need the manual for that four cylinder engine (470)

If you bring the serial numbers/model info to a mercruiser dealer they will be able to help with the right manuals

as far as winterizing there is a great tutorial in the must have info sticky at the top of the forums, #6

Hi there bud, i have 83 470 twins in a slickcraft. Mine have the One drive R. More than likely thats what you have.

I have an 84 470 in my boat and my outdrive is an Alpha 1 3.7L and it has a big number 4 on it as well. You can see my numbers in my sign. Good Luck.

an '83 and '84 470 came with a 1-R. this info came from the adults only sticky. it's title is mercruiser engine/drive model year reference chart.

i think ya need s/m #3 and #6. 3 for the engine. MCM470 s/n range 4886620-6218036. there is also a MCM470R with a different s/n range. s/m #6 title says it covers "sterndrive units R-MR-alpha one-alpha one ss
since your supposed to have a 1-R. that must be the one. there are s/n ranges for this too.

transom assy s/n should be on a sticker dead center top of the transom assy. drive s/n should be on the sticker on the port side.

engine s/n may appear in one of two places, 470 in ft. of the heat exchanger, 470R behind the fuel pump.

that's the best i can do for ya at this point.

The #8 manual covers MCM 170 #6616779 - OA-475151. Hope this helps a bit.
