Hi all;

I got a question on my 1989 4.3L mercruiser engine with thunderbolt ignition. I have read on the internet that this ignition is at times faulty. My distributer is the hall effect type, and not points. Although I cannot find out why the are faulty. There are companies that are selling replacement systems called EST voyager.

I'm about to install my engine back in the boat and was wondering if it would be in my best intrest to replace the complete ignition system, of just the tune up parts with a new coil. Also if I replace just the coil, is there one that someone could recommend.

I was unsure how the ignition system previously worked, as I bought the boat with a bad engine.

Thanks

Re: Thunderbolt ignition

Ayuh,... You have the T-Bolt IV,... It's a Rock Solid igntion system that is probably 1 of the Best...
If not The Best...
I wouldn't change it, Or the coil unless absolutely Necessary...

Re: Thunderbolt ignition

Thanks for the help, I'm very new to boating, and this site has been a wealth of knowledge. I'll be ordering my tune up parts tonight.
Cheers
Tom
