In the process of putting my rebuilt 4.3 engine back together but had a question on the distributor installation. Following the mercruiser manual I would drop in the dist pointing to #1 lead. Now how do I know what the position of the cap/distr body should be, in theory I could have the distributor in any orientation and just line up the rotor to point to #1. Also, so when I do have the rotor pointed to #1 lead none of the sensor wheel tabs are directly on the sensor, they are behind and after the sensor. This how they should be? Not to positive on how the sensor wheel works though...

The EXACT orientation is not critical, but you do need to set it up so the HT leads and harness connection to the distributor are in roughly the same position as it came out, or you are going to have trouble connecting the various wires to the dissy.
