I bought a 2003 Glastron SX175 with 3.0 Alpha I/O
with 30 hrs on it. Has a noticeable ticking or slight knocking at low idle or low speed (2 - 6mph). Frequency follows speed of engine. Above 6mph no ticking or knocking is heard. I looked for anything that might be vibrating. Took back to the dealer and he tried it out and found the same thing. He then took out 5 other new boats during the week with the same engine and 2 of them had the ticking and 3 did not. Service mgr and mechanic didn't understand what it was caused by, wouldn't worry about it, and would take care of it if anything went wrong. All of this has been documented and a copy given to me, including the testing they had done, so I don't think they are lying to me.
Has anone noticed this before. Any ideas

Also the boat is under full warranty until the end of the season. Other than this little annoyance (because I notice it now) I am perfectly happy with the boat.

thanks for any help

Al

Are you using synthetic oil? Some engines are particular about what flavor oil you feed them. I have a pair of 140's (3.0 litre) that clicked, ticked, and knocked a little at lower rpm's when using synthetic, but quieted considerably when I went back to straight 30W. Synthetic is great stuff, but needs to be applied judiciously.
