Tidal Potomac? Any insight? 18' Bayliner BR

I moved from East TN to Northern VA last year, and between this and that never did manage to get the boat wet. The boat is a 2005 Bayliner 185BR that I bought used in TN. So last week I put it in for a checkup and tuneup, and this Saturday I plan to splash the boat in the Potomac for the first time.

I was thinking about launching at Leesylvania or Pohick Bay and cruise a bit, maybe find a likely spot and fish. But other than knowing that the tidal Potomac changes to the Lower Potomac down around the 301 bridge, and knowing that after a year and a half away I'll be crap at launching, I really don't know what to be aware of. So any hints, advice, or knowledge about the area is very welcome!

Get yourself a chart, depth finder and watch the tides. Careful @ Pohick, the bay is shallow in spots.Watch your fuel, takes more to return upriver. There is a nice spot @ Mattapony creek, lots of lillypads and a channel that goes quite a ways back. You might try up to Georgetown and the Three Sisters. Watch yourself above Georgetown, the channel is up to 100' deep with shallow sides.
