Tide went out - we got stuck!

So my husband was out the other day in a river that goes to the bay here in California and well he was stuck about 3 hours until the tide came up enough but he was dribing when he ran aground and alot of mud is coming out those holes that the rubber ears go on when you run water through your engine. The boat never had a hard time starting or anything but now as we test the motor we still see mud coming out especially when you turn the motor off, then a gush of mud kind of comes out. Is this probably just going to work out on its own or should we be taking anything apart to clean more thoroughly. We just don't want to end up later with engine problems from that mud that we should have cleaned out better. We have a book on the OMC 305 motor but it dosent really say anything about this situation. Thanks for the help in advance.

I would take the impeller housing off, and flush flush flush until it is clear, then hook the impeller up, start the engine, and flush flush flush until the water is clear.. mud is abrasive, and hopefully it hasn't ruined your impeller, or clogged up the power steering cooler or other down line orifices.. I would not let it sit and dry before you make sure all traces of mud are gone... If the mud has a high clay content, it could be making "pottery" in your block, heads, outdrive, and other expensive places

Thank you Reinell-BRXL-191, we will take your advice. We do have high clay which as you say can bake right onto everything. Thanks again. Chattyrona
