I just purchased a 1991 tiderider that has a cuyuna motor and I am looking for any information on this jet ski. I am new to jet skis so I know very little. This jet ski is in almost mint condition but has been in storage for more then 8 years and now wont start. I pulled the carb off and cleaned it but Im not getting any gas to the motor. Can anyone tell me were I can get a carb rebuild kit, it's a kehinen(spelling?)carb. The compression is around 120 on both cylinders. Any help would be great. Thanks

This jet ski was Built by SOS marine form I think 1989-1993. The engine is a Cuyuna 428cc L/C. I origialy said that the Carb was a Kehinen but I was just told that it is Mukuni. Anyone with any information would be great. Thanks

Re: tiderider Cuyuna help

thats a common carb if you check with kaw or sea doo for the carb model you can most likely find a kit for it, is the fuel pump part of the carb or seperate it could be a mikuni BN38 is the fuel pump round and on the carb if so kawasaki used those.

Re: tiderider Cuyuna help

Thanks for your reply. The fuel pump is part of the carb and it's round. I have the cuyuna owners manual and it has a picture of the carb with BN 38-34 written above the picture. I drained all of the old gas out and sprayed carb cleaner in all the fuel lines to clean them out and now it starts fairly easy. Also I blew some low pressure air into the vacuum hose that conects from the crank case to the carb to clear any cloggs that may have been in there. I turned the motor over a few times with my finger over the end of the hose and there seems to be good vacuum. As far as the motor goes If I can't find replacement parts if I need them down the road are most PWC motor mounts pretty much the same. Would I be able to use a motor from a Kawasaki or yamaha or any other JetSki?

Re: tiderider Cuyuna help

I would not really have any idea but my guess is probably not, carbs are pretty common from ski to ski but most other parts are not I would strongly advise you to take the carb and match up a kit and totally rebuild it before using it in the water,if it runs lean you run the risk of burning a hole in the piston, I have seen many problems with carbs sitting for a long time. the diaphragm will stick to the cover, or passages will be blocked etc , just because it runs on the trailer means absoloutely nothing as compared to running in the water, trust me on this!!!

Re: tiderider Cuyuna help

Try this site for some insight. I think the engines are similar.

http://www.ultralightnews.com/cuyuna/trcyn.html

The site has pictures in a 'rebuild' section, some good information and seems useful.

I believe the engine is a German design, and has been built by JLO and Rockwell. It was used in the 70s and 80s in the Scorpion line of snowmobiles which were built near Crosby Minnesota which is on the Cuyuna Iron Range, a less famous range then the Messabi Range. I hated the engine in my snowmobile, I'm not sure I would ever fly behind it. lol.

good luck,
fp

Re: tiderider Cuyuna help

Thanks for the reply. I'll check out that site. It's funny that this company made this jetski for 5 years and there is absoulutly no info on the web about them. I did manage to find the manufacturer of the motor. It's 2 stroke international. I called them and they said that I can get all of the parts I need for this motor from them. Now if I can only find replacement parts for the ski itself. Right now I don't need anything but down the road I may need a steering cable or something along those lines. Thanks again.
