This last weekend was an interesting one. While I will not talk about the mudbath, the stuck car/trailer combo, the lake that was low to get into, the guy at the boat ramp that I had to wait 20 minutes for while he took care of his fish and unloaded his whole boat before getting it on the trailer. (great 2 hours fishing though).<br />Well I used one of those cinch tie downs on my 14 ft Jon instead of a ratchet tie down. The mosquitos were bad it was dark etc. So I park the boat in the yard and leave it hooked up to the car. That night it pours like crazy. Unfortunately the boat does not drain when connected to the car. It is full of water. Last night I decided I had to pull the boat to the nearest hill to get the water to drain so I could unhook the trailer from the car. (Yeah no trailer jack on this one.) I start pulling out the driveway really slow and see this nice blonde women walking past the house with her dog. Now I have always made it a point to watch this woman walk by (Hey Its genetics I can't help it). I am turning on the street and right next to this woman I see the rear port side of the boat fly up 2 feet in the air off the trailer. Crap!. I stop and look at the boat. The water shifted, that Tie down let loose and the back of the boat was still up in the air and the front of the boat is shifted off to the side. The woman comments that she was kind've worried about that. Now I am on a busy road, the back of my boat in in the air, the front of the boat is off the trailer and has 30 gallons of water in it. The tie down won't hold and I have totally made a fool of myself. I did muscle the boat back on the trailer and finished the job. But from now on, I am only using ratchet ties downs (well oiled).
