tight steering cables...where to adjust ?

I tried to adjust the cable that depresses the inter-lock switch, but the cable is too hard to move for me to place the ..end of the cable part.. that depresses the switch. Can I possibly losen the cable somewhere to get her to move? What can I try ? I loosened the two small nuts that hold the part that depresses the switch, but the cable won't budge. 125 force..17 ft. newman ski-boat....cables look fairly new..Had boat all summer...runs great, except I can't get this part on end of cable to move so as to depress inter-lock switch...Does not depress while in neutral.....Tks. for any advice Daveywonder...wondering

Cable is probably shot, you can try greasing up all the nipples on the motor, also greasing the cable. It may look new, but its probably older.
