I have a 1972 Johnson 25hp model 25R72R. i have been thru this motor from top to bottom as it has fought me every step of the way. i dont"t think there is any part of it i have not had to repair.as it had a family or rodents living in it just before i got it.
However i have enjoyed the journey and learned a lot along the way. My lastest problem is that the control arm bearing clamp keeps breaking on me..with the last one i replaced only lasting about five minutes after i launched the boat . What did i do wrong or what could cause this to happen so much? Thank you for your time and help!!

Sorry i should have been more clear it is part #0305609 and is listed as #39 0n iboats under the Cvlinder and Crankcase section for a Johnson 25R72R . It is located on the port side under the flywheel and holds the top of the throttle control arm to the motor just under the flywheel. Thanks

Just like I thought !!----I believe you should look at the flywheel rubbing on the coils.----The coils need to be set / adjusted to be in the right place.

I've lost them on the shop floor, but I've never broken one either. Maybe if the inner one is missing, the outer one gets stressed somehow. I have broken the spring clip up at the top of the tower/control lever, however, and I think that piece is stainless steel.

Gentlemen, I believe the coils were rubbing the flywheel or at least one side of one of the was not tight as it should have been and rubbed just a little but that is all it takes.. I hope I have that problem cured and hopefully smooth sailing ahead. I cannot thank you guys enough for sharing all your wisdom on these old motors. I would not have made it this far without you. Thanks again and Happy Trails
