I have a new 20hp 4stroke suzuki,i have a new tiller extender but the tiller handle is a bit hard to get the tiller extender on because the tillers rubber handle is so thick. This is probably a dumb question but what can i use to slide the tiller extension over the tiller itself so it's all the way on.I though of like petroleum jelly.Just a little to slide it all the way on safely and it has the clamps to tighten it up after that.I want to be able to remove it to so does anyone have any tips on this. Will the petroleum jelly ruin the rubber on the tiller or what should i use.I got the tiller at walmart like 3 yrs ago and the suzuki has a thicker handle/tiller then most motors do.I can get it on like a inch or maybe 2 but i know if i jam it on it will never come off,it gets i mean hard to remove just from going on the inch or 2,so i ask is there anything i can use to slide it on easier without ruining the tiller and being able to remove it easy? Thanks for any info.

Re: Tiller extender

For the grips on old bikes say 30 or 40 years old. I use a light soap and water solution.
To remove grip I slip a thin screwdriver between the grip and handle bar use something like a windex spray bottle or sometimes just windex. Remove the screwdriver and usually the grip frees up and is easy to remove.
To install grips a squirt of solution inside grip and on the handlebar, slides right on. The solution dries in a while and the grip is secured. If your extension has a rubber end it seems this might work.

Is it possible to widen a bit the the tiller interior diam with a round small file ? could use Love Lub, Vaseline, Silicone Oil to insert extension on tiller grip.

Some engine brands sells own tiller extensions that matches precisely their tiller grips diameter.
