I have a 1969 9.9hp chrysler that I just inherited. Their are two gears on the underside of the tiller, one which is linked to the hand control, and the one it is geared with which is attatched to the throttle on the engine. When you turn the hand control, the gear associated with it won't turn the other gear, it just raises itself above the other and spins. The gear linked to the motor throttle isn't really bound up so I have no idea what the problem is. I bought a clymer repair manual and it doesn't address the tiller at all. My other question is that if by your help I fix this problem, how do I set the control handle where it is supposed to be since it is currently frespinning. I am a rookie to boat motor repair and need as much help as possible.
