Hi. I want to buy 35 Hp johnson motor, but its off a boat that has wheel steering... therefore it has no tiller steering arm. My question is, is it possible to install a tiller steering arm to this motor?

Yes. I just did this with a 30hp. Just make sure when you buy the tiller arm you get all the cables or gears (depending on year) with it. Check the BRP site for which tiller you need and which years are compatible.

Also, if it was a console boat with electric start, you will probably have to retro fit some switches for the choke solenoid, starter and possibly the kill switch.

Depends on how old your 35 is. If we are talking way back in the late 1950's it is a simple bolt on handle. If we are talking the newer ones, it may require major surgery.

The first year of that motor is 1976. Tiller arm from a 1976-1985 35, 25 or 1980-1885 20 hp will work. Make sure you have/get the gears and pinion gear on the motor side as well as the tiller arm assembly.

With a 1976 parts book right in front of me, I can say that there is no place to put a tiller on the electric start model unless you install a manual start steering bracket. The "steering bracket" is the part that is the front carrying handle, that the remote steering connects to.

However, if you have a manual start motor and the tiller has merely been removed, that is a different story. Just find a tiller and bolt it on.

Thanks guys, really appreciated your effort. It is an electric start, so i guess I'll have to install the bracket as well. And your saying to convert it to manual start instead of electric?

No, he's saying the electric start has a different handle, of which I wasn't aware, but if you get the manual start handle/tiller you can mount it on your motor. Check your PM's. I believe I have the parts you need if you decide to go this route.
