I have an old (1940ish) Clinton 4.5hp motor. I have ran into some part issues with the carb. I not only could use a rebuild kit, i could use i whole other carb. The model number of the carb is MD8B. I know the MD8A was interchangeable if that helps. Any help would be appreciated.

Carb rebuild kits for Tillotsons are about as rare as chicken fangs. You may be able to find some parts at laingsoutboards.com

However, find out what you have first. I don't think Clinton made outboards in the 1940s. 4-stroke Lawnmower engines, yes. If you can't find a model number, post a picture here and we'll see if we can narrow it down.

I have an old generic service manual that covers many brands back to 55.
Clinton section starts at 57.

OK Styles, I did the legwork for you. The MD-8A and B were used on Martin 40 and 45 motors. 4.5hp. Built from 1947 thru 1954.

martinoutboards.com is THE place to go for Martin parts and info. He bought all the parts from the factory when they quit making Martins.
