I have a Sears Model 571 with the Tillotson MD carb. I have been having problems with the carb flooding in the throat. I have determined that the check valve works, but the float is not cutting it off. I tried adjusting the angle of the valve lever (on the float) but that doesn't help. It looks like the float is just not floating soon enough. It becomes pretty well submerged before floating and the throat still floods. The float doesn't leak anywhere I can see. Is there a way to make it float better? I can't seem to find a new float for it anywhere. It also kinda binds along the side of the bowl.

Any ideas?

Re: Tillotson MD Carb Float

If memory serves, the float is a small donut type float. Pull it and smooth the edges with a small file or sandpaper for metal, very gently. While you have it out, examine it for small pin holes. You can dab a small bit of solder to fix those. Also check the rod/pin on which it sits. It needs to be clean and shiny. Also check the needle/valve seat. It may need to be replaced. If none of this works, may be time for another MD carb. The Webvertize ads at www.aomci.org is a good place to start.

hmmmm. . . .

It seems to be missing the rod that the float pivots on. That could be the problem  !!!!

Thanks!
