So, ive noticed here recently that when i trim my motor up while fishing, it slowly goes back down, not bad enought that it is bad but it does it.. So today I raised it all the way up like it said an took the plug out an could not see any fluid, so slowly i lowered it down an it got almost all the way down before i could see any..

So my question is, is the fluid causing the motor to slowly go down, an if so how would you go about puting the fluid in, when its all the way up or down. An how do you drain the fluid out... i haven really looked at it much on how to get it out so im sure it would be easy if i looked..

But if its not the fluid what else would cause that problem

Thanks in advance..

Re: Tilt an trim fluid

You should refill the PTT resevoir. The older Mercs (70s) used 5W-30 motor oil. Some owners probably used ATF instead. if you have one of these older Mercs, use whatever is in there already. the newer mercs 80+ used Auto trans Fluid. Top off the resevoir, and cycle the motor all the way down and then up, and let it sit to allow the air to bubble out. Repeat a few times and see if it gets better. Repost if still an issue. Provide year and HP

Normally you fill with the motor all the way up. Use the ATF.
