Tilt and trim......and pin?

Greetings. I have recently acquired a 1984 70hp. This is my first outboard with power tilt and trim. I'm not sure how exactly to use the tilt, trim pin. which hole should I have the pin in? I'm guessing I should put it in a hole that would allow me to trim the motor too low. My thought is that I should be able to adjust it on both sides of the "sweet spot". Any advice is appreciated, thanks

Put the pin in the hole closest to the transom and leave it there.

Ok, I might be over thinking this, but why the other holes then?

For different applications but when you have T/T put it in the lower hole.

Is your unit power trim and tilt ?------A tilt only unit was available as well.----Is the hydraulic package mounted externally ?

No, it's the whole power tilt and trim "factory" unit. Thanks for clarifying though. I am excited to Be able to tune this thing while on plane. And also while at the ramp it won't be like pulling a dead cow up out of the water, like my last outboard. :)
