i have installed a power tilt and trim unit on my 81 90 hp evinrude and now i need to find a tilt and trim control box with the relays . i see them on ebay from time to time and was wondering what style i need .the tilt and trim is off of a much newer engine and it is the two wire system thats on my motor.

is there a year that omc switched to the 2 wire system? or is the 2 wire system the older technology?

thanks for looking.

The two wire system is the newer technology and coincides with the use of 2 relays to switch polarity on the two wires of the trim motor.

90HP motors with Trailing "M" or higher on the model number would have the two wire relay box. Earlier ones were wired for three wire motors, used solenoids, and will not work for you.

The newer the relay box, the better. If you can find one with the extra switch and wiring for mounting at the motor, so much the better. Hopefully, you can pick up the whole wiring harness.

Edit: That looks good. Don't worry too much about the relays, you can use the GM ones from your parts store if those don't turn out OK.
