tilt and trim fluid

I've notice my 2006 Suzuki DF140 does not tilt up as far as it used to, it used to tilt up so the the prop completely cleared the water, now it won't. No other issues with the tilt or trim.

Could this just be that I am low on fluid? If yes, is this normal for a 4 year old motor or do I have a leak that needs attention?

When checking the fluid level, do I have to open the manual valve and hoist the motor the last foot or so before opening the reservoir or can I check it in the highest position it gets now? I don't want to lose any more fluid just to check if its low or not.

Lastly, is automatic transmission fluid OK?, I've seen a lot info in searching the forum.

Thanks in advance.

Re: tilt and trim fluid

Have you checked the fluid level? Thats the first thing.
Most are checked with the trim all the way down. But read your manual to see for sure.

Age has nothing to do with if it leaks or not.

I use Quicksilver TnT fluid in mine.

Most likely your trim limit switch is out of adjustment.

Trim limit has noting to do with tilt. The tilt switch bypassed the trim limit sensor.

Thanks for the replies. The manual is in the boat up up at the lake, I'll be there this weekend and check it out.
