Re: tilt and trim issue

From the full down position, the PTT unit trims upwards (Trim Mode) only 15 Degrees, after that it goes into Tilt Mode. The unit is only designed to hold thru the 15 degree portion while underway. If the engine should be raised to the "tilt" range, the propeller thrust will force the engine down to the trim rams.

If this is what is happening, therein lies the problem. If not, explain further.

To check the fluid, simply have the engine tilted to its extreme up position, then fill the reservoir to overflowing, then replace the reservoir screw plug. The unit is self bleeding.

Re: tilt and trim issue

its going completly down ,,but like i said just when i am under way ,,if iam just idling it works just fine its when i try to do a hole shot it goes down i can even hear it hitting the boat ,,now i did have a problem one time where the motor would not go up turned out to be the 20 amp main fuse was blown at that time i was at the ramp so in order to put the boat on trailer and off the ramp someone told me that the screw on the side would let put the motor up manually ,, i of course once the the boat was up on the trailer I turn the screw back to the original position could that have caused somthing or could it possibly just be lack of fluid,,

Re: tilt and trim issue

If both of the trim rams are forced in, suspect a faulty "Tilt Trim Seperation Valve", a check valve that inserts into the port side of the PTT manifold. It is necessary to either remove the port transom bracket or to remove the PTT assembly from the engine to gain access to this check valve.
